Annual or perennial climbing fleshy herbs, smooth and glabrous. The roots are sometimes massive. The leaves are alternate, shield shaped, suborbicular, about 5-10 cm wide, with 9 main veins, which radiate from the position where the petiole is attached to the leaf to all directions. The edge is wavy and obtuse, and the lower part is usually covered with hairs or milk bumps. The petiole is 10-20 cm long and attached near the center of the leaf. The flowers are simple and long stalked, mostly yellow or colored, 2.5-5cm wide; sepals 5, connate at the base, one of which extends to a long distance; petals 5, of different sizes, the upper 2 petals are usually larger, the lower 3 petals are smaller, the base is narrow and clawed, and there are hairy cracks near the edge of claws: stamens 8, filaments separated, unequal length; ovary 3-locular, style 1, stigma 3-lobed, linear. The fruit splits into three small Chinese fir fruits at maturity. The flowering period is spring and summer.
It can be cultivated in all parts of China.
[collection] collect the whole grass in autumn and winter.
[chemical constituents] the seeds contain glucose, α - phenylcinnamonitrile, 970 mg% benzyl isothiocyanate, 7.2% or 15% fatty oil, and more than half of erucic acid in the saponified part of the oil.
The pericarp contains chlorogenic acid and a small amount of flavonoids. Isoquercitrin, quercetin-3-triglucoside and chlorogenic acid were found in rhizome, petiole and especially in leaves. Benzyl thiocyanate from leaves. Flowers contain many kinds of carotene and glucoside.
[pharmacological action] the volatile component in the leaves or other parts is guangnuo antibiotic (German preparation name "tromalyt"). The effective concentration for gram negative or positive bacteria in vitro is 1:1000000-30000000. It can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, typhoid bacillus, paratyphoid bacillus, dysentery bacillus, anthrax bacillus, Bacillus subtilis, acid fast bacillus and some fungi. It also has a good inhibitory effect on most bacteria that can form spores and microorganisms in eye infection. It can also increase the antibacterial effect of chloramphenicol. The effect of young plants is better than that of stems. The effect of roots is ineffective. The effect of distilled water is not good enough. The active ingredient is lipophilic, insoluble in water (can be used as emulsion) benzyl isothiocyanate (benzene oil). It was proved that tromalyt was benzyl isothiocyanate by chemical and biological tests. It is easy to be absorbed through stomach and duodenum, and excreted mainly through kidney, respiratory tract and oral mucosa (1-3 hours after oral administration). The highest concentration was found in urine 4-6 hours after administration. After long-term administration (3.5 months), the excretory organs of guinea pigs were not irritated. The histological examination of viscera showed no obvious pathological changes. The hemogram was normal except for the increase of the number of large lymphocytes. The eosinophils of guinea pigs did not increase, and there was no asthma, so there was no allergic phenomenon, but 2-3 weeks after taking it, there was ulceration on the skin of the nape, no excretion of feces, no diarrhea, and no disturbance of intestinal flora. It can also stimulate the activity of reticuloendothelial system, enhance the body's defense ability and recovery process. Clinically, it can be used for general infection, such as respiratory tract infection, stomatitis and urinary tract infection. Side effects may include frequent urination, stomach discomfort, and vomiting in infants. Once a child developed skin rash after 6 days of medication, local application had redness effect. It is not suitable for bacteremia, biliary tract or intestinal tract infection. The acute toxicity of tromalyt was 76-107, 68 and 72 mg / kg in mice, guinea pigs and rats by intraperitoneal injection, and 134, 81 and 128 mg / kg by oral administration.
