[pharmacological action] from the extract of persimmon lacquer, we can get choline and acetylcholine, and some amino acid like substances similar to choline in structure and unknown in nature; it can reduce rabbit blood pressure, inhibit isolated frog heart, and excite guinea pig intestines. These effects can be blocked by atropine: in Hirudo dorsal muscle specimens, its action intensity is equivalent to 3 / 4 of acetylcholine; another component can reduce cat blood pressure It was not blocked by atropine. In vitro, persimmon lacquer has hemolytic effect. When injected into rabbits, it causes morphological changes of red blood cells and decrease of lymphocytes.
