[plant morphology] musk glomerata
Herbs annual, up to 1 m inside and outside, glandular hairy. Stem erect, solitary or branched. Leaves opposite, shortly stipitate, ovate to oblong or lanceolate, 2.5-5 cm long, apex obtuse, margin obtuse serrate. Spike terminal, spherical or oblong, 1-3 cm long; bracteoles 2, linear; flowers dense; blue purple, about 7 mm long; calyx teeth 5, lower calyx teeth larger, lanceolate, other linear, slightly shorter than corolla; corolla tube cylindrical, upper lip erect, lower lip expanded, 3-lobed; stamen 4, included; pistil 1. Capsule ovate, ca. 3 mm, brown. The flowering period is October.
It grows on hillside, wilderness and grass. It is distributed in the south of China.

[medicinal material] the dried whole grass with flowers is 30-40 cm long and its roots are mostly cut off. There may be remnants. Stem 2-5 mm thick, appearance iron brown to brown, all covered with gray glandular hairs. It is hard and slightly tough, with pith in the center of cross section, often empty; its branches are prismatic, and its nodes are obvious. The leaves are crispy, dark brown, brown on the back and gray white hairs on both sides. Terminal spherical or rectangular round spikes, corolla shrinkage, brown, fragrant.
