[plant morphology] Phellodendron chinense
Deciduous shrub, about 1 meter high. Branchlets slightly angular, biennial branches with yellow or dark brown, branches with abnormal leaf needles, single or divided into 3 branches, 1.5-3 cm long. Single leaf alternate, or clustered on short branches; elliptic, obovate or obovate long elliptic, 2-6 cm long, 1.5-3.5 cm wide, apex obtuse, base cuneate, margin short awned serrate, below gray white, reticulate protrusion. 10-12 flowers are terminal racemes, about 6 cm long, bisexual, about 1 cm in diameter, petiolate; sepals 6, yellow, petaloid, obovate, with 2-3 bracts at the base: petals 6, usually smaller than sepals, with 2 nectaries at the base; stamens 6, opposite petals, 2-lobed anthers; carpels 1, ovary superior, elliptic, stigma sessile. Berry oval, blood red, slightly powdery. The flowering period is May. The fruiting period is November.
It grows between stone gaps in valleys, under the forest and in mountain shrubs. Distributed in Anhui, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and other places.
