[plant morphology] Malacca odorifera
Deciduous tree, 15 meters high, bark smooth, light gray to dark gray, branches purple brown to gray brown, lenticels round or oblong. Leaves opposite, singular pinnate compound: leaflets 7 (5-11), elliptic lanceolate or ovate, long elliptic to lanceolate, 6-11 cm long, 2-6 cm wide, base rounded or broadly cuneate, often oblique, apex acuminate. The upper part is green, glabrous or sometimes sparsely pubescent, the lower part is grayish white, sparsely villous or often exfoliated along the main vein, but the two lateral hairs between the vein axils and the base of the main vein are often densely clumped, without oil gland spots; the petiole at the top of the leaf axis is 1.5-2.5 cm long, and the lateral petiole is 2-6 mm long. Corymb terminal; flowers white; sepals 5-lobed, lobes triangular, margin short eyelashes; petals 5; male flowers retrograde, ovary apex 5-split; staminodes of female flowers very short, ovary nearly spherical, style very short. Follicles 4-5-lobed, sparsely 3-lobed. The seeds are brown and black.
Most of them grow on sunny hillsides and in wet trees beside mountain streams. It is distributed in Jiangxi, Zhejiang and the upper and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

[prescription selection] cough after treatment of measles in children: five to six dollars for fresh fruit of spicy tree, four to five dollars for root of fresh sorghum, three to four dollars for fresh honeysuckle vine, four to five dollars for root of fresh drunkard grass and three to four dollars for licorice.
