In 1949, Zhang Shourong graduated from the Department of metallurgical engineering of Tianjin Beiyang university with a bachelor's degree in engineering; in 1949, he took part in the production recovery work of Anshan Iron and steel company, and successively served as the production section chief, engineer and assistant director of the ironmaking plant; in 1957, he took part in the construction and production work of phase I project of Wuhan Iron and steel company, and successively served as the production section chief, engineer, director of the Research Office of the central laboratory and director of the ironmaking plant In 1995, he was elected academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (chemical industry, metallurgy and Materials Engineering Department); in 1997, he was elected foreign academician of Mexican Academy of engineering; in 2003, he served as director of technical expert committee of WISCO.
