Ye Tianshi (1666-1745) was named GUI, named Tianshi, named Xiangyan and named Nanyang. Wu County, Jiangsu Province (now Suzhou, Jiangsu Province) people. His ancestral home is Shexian County, Anhui Province. His ancestor Ye Fengshan moved to Suzhou from Lantian village, Shexian County, Anhui Province, and lived by Shangjin bridge. Therefore, Ye Gui was also called Shangjin old man in his later years. He is a famous doctor in Qing Dynasty and one of the four experts in epidemic febrile diseases.

Doctor Zhang visited the old lady at Ye Tianshi's home and looked at the past prescriptions carefully. After a long time, he said that the combination of medicine and disease should work. However, the disease is caused by heat stagnation between the heart and stomach, and Coptis should be added to the medicine. On hearing this, Ye Gui said: I have long wanted to use Coptis, because my mother is old, I'm afraid it will put out the real fire. Doctor Zhang said: Mrs. Tai's pulse is long and full of spirit, and her essence is strong. Suit the remedy to the case, why not use Coptis? Ye Gui agreed very much. As a result, the disease was cured after two doses of medicine. Later, Ye Gui said to people, "Dr. Zhang is more skillful than me. You can ask him to see a doctor."
