CEN Zhongmian
CEN Zhongmian is a Chinese historian. Its scientific name is Mingshu, its word is Zhongmian, and its alias is rumao. He is from Shunde County, Guangdong Province. Born in September 1886. When he was young, he entered two broad schools (Guangya college in Qing Dynasty, later changed to higher school in Guangdong and Guangxi), studied for two and a half years, and was admitted to the preparatory course of study tour in Guangdong and Guangxi (Yuexiu college in Qing Dynasty). In October 1908, he entered Beijing Higher Special Tax school and graduated in December 1912. Later, he worked as a staff member in Shanghai Jiang customs and Guangdong finance department, engaged in the research of plant names and facts and the research of Chinese and foreign history and geography. From July 1934 to June 1935, he was Secretary and clerical director of Jinan University in Shanghai. He wrote an amateur book, textual research and interpretation of the story of Buddha's journey to Tianzhu, which was published by Shanghai Commercial Press in 1934 and attracted the attention of historians.
Life
Shunde, CEN Zhongmian's hometown, was the hometown of Li Wentian, a famous northwest historian and geographer in Qing Dynasty, so his academic research was deeply influenced by the northwest historiography and geographer in Qing Dynasty. CEN Zhongmian regarded Xu Song, the author of Shuidao Ji of the western regions, supplementary notes to the biography of the western regions of the Han Dynasty, and textual research on Dengke Ji, as a pioneer. Therefore, he wrote proofreading and explanation of the geography of the biography of the western regions of the Han Dynasty and textual Research on Dengke Ji. CEN Zhongmian was also influenced by Lao Ge, a scholar of Tang history who died early in the Qing Dynasty. His works such as the new description of the title of Langguan stone pillar, the new textual research on the title of Langguan stone pillar, the reading notes of the whole Tang Dynasty continued by Lao Ge, and the four proofreading notes of Yuanhe surname all carried forward Lao GE's unfinished work, but surpassed him in broad aspects.
The most important achievement of Cen Zhongmian's academic research is to verify history by inscriptions. The inscriptions and postscripts of the Jinshi family in the Qing Dynasty are mainly about primary school, stele examples, calligraphy and other special meanings. Cen Zhongmian uses inscriptions to verify historical facts, and corrects the defects of the Jinshi family in the Qing Dynasty that they believe in stone inscriptions and are partial to historical facts. In addition to the study of Langguan Shizhu, he wrote the history of Jinshi Zheng, the history of Zhenshi Zheng, and the history of xuzhenshi Zheng from 1936 to 1942, and later included in the collection of Jinshi Lun Cong, which was published by Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House in 1981.
In the study of collation and interpretation of Sui and Tang history, in the aspect of distinguishing falsehood, the epitaph of Mr. baijizuiyin is doubtful and other articles have been widely praised by scholars at home and abroad. Together with the falsehood of Bai's Changqing collection and on the origin and development of Bai's Changqing collection, they have made important contributions to the collation of Bai Juyi's anthology. In the aspect of tracing the historical source, it is pointed out that Yuanhe surname Zuan is the historical source of the new book of the Tang Dynasty · prime minister's genealogy table, which is an important discovery. As for the textual research of official Canon system, Hanlin scholars' notes and supplements to the wall records and Hanlin two records of Tang Dynasty are the works of chaomai Qing people. In the aspect of geographical research, the preface of Kuo Di Zhi Lue Xin Quan discusses the wrong arrangement of sun Xingyan. The Monographs in this field include Sui Shu Qiu Shi, Tang Shi Yu Shen, Tong Jian Sui and Tang Ji Bi Shi query and Tang Renxing Di Lu in the 1950s and 1960s. Xing Di Lu is the first work of great benefit to the literary history and biography of Tang Dynasty.
The history of Sui and Tang Dynasties (1950-1953) written by Cen reflects the author's creative ideas in the general theory of Sui and Tang history. For example, the study of Li Deyu, Chen Ziang and the four towns is full of new ideas. In addition, in his later years, he also wrote the history of the Yellow River changes, the research on the system of the government and soldiers, the social system of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the essays on the literature and history of the two Zhou dynasties, and the brief notes of Mozi Chengshou. These monographs reflect the author's extensive interest in the history since the Western Zhou Dynasty and even the history of the Yellow River.
In the aspect of history and geography research in China and foreign countries, especially in Northwest China, he has published the supplement and textual research of Western Turkic historical materials, the collection of Turkic history, and the textual research of history and geography in China and foreign countries. The collection of Turkic historical materials has been highly praised by scholars at home and abroad. CEN Zhongmian has published more than 180 papers, 18 monographs and 2 special monographs since 1912.
