Later, the Han Dynasty sent Zhu Hao to replace his position as governor of Yuzhang. Zhuge Xuan asked Zhuge Liang to wait until Xiangyang to take refuge with Liu Biao in Jingzhou. He asked Liu Biao to go to Mount Tai to take care of Zhuge GUI's affairs after completing his mission. Liu Biao allowed him to go to Xuzhou to take care of Zhuge GUI's widow and children after the mission.

After Zhuge Xuan died, Zhuge Liang took his younger brothers and sisters to WoLonggang in Nanyang to work. After the death of Zhou Shu, the governor of Yuzhang, Liu Biao recommended that Zhuge Xuan be appointed to take over Nanchang (now Nanchang, Jiangxi Province). After hearing that Zhou Shu had passed away, the Eastern Han court appointed Zhu Hao to replace zhugexuan as the governor of Yuzhang. Zhu Hao asked Liu Yao, the governor of Yangzhou, to send troops to attack zhugexuan. Zhuxi retreated to gexuan. In the first month of the second year of Jian'an (197), the residents of Xicheng rebelled, killed Zhuge Xuan, beheaded him and sent him to Liu Yao. This view is different from that recorded in the biography of Zhuge Liang in the annals of the Three Kingdoms.
