Yan Zheng (1917-april 27, 2003), the founding major general of the people's Republic of China, was born in Daxian County, Sichuan Province. He joined the Red Army of workers and peasants in October 1933. He joined the Communist Youth League of China in February 1934 and became a member of the Communist Party of China in September of the same year. He participated in the agrarian revolution, the war of resistance against Japan, the war of liberation and the war of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea.
He was awarded the rank of major general in 1955. On April 27, 2003, he died in Wuhan at the age of 86.

During the war of Liberation
During the war of liberation, he served as director of the Political Department of the 27th division of the 9th column of the East China Field Army and political commissar of the 104th division of the 35th army of the third field army. He participated in the battles of Laiwu, Menglianggu, nanlinqu, Jiaodong, Changwei, west line of Jiaoji Road, Yanzhou, Jinan, Huaihai and Dujiang.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, he served as Deputy Secretary of the Shaoxing prefectural committee of the CPC Zhejiang Province, political commissar of the 104th division of the 35th army, political commissar of the 10th division of the Zhejiang military region, and deputy director and director of the Political Department of the 21st army.
In 1952, he participated in the war to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea and served as deputy political commissar and director of the Political Department of the 21st army of the Chinese people's Volunteer Army.
In 1956, he entered the Political College of the PLA.
Since 1958, he has served as deputy political commissar of the 31st army, deputy director, director and deputy political commissar of the Political Department of Fuzhou military region, and political commissar of Chengdu Military Region.
In 1977, he served as political commissar of Wuhan military region.
In June 1985, he retired to the second tier.
