Character experience
Chen Yi was born on April 11, 1933 in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. She has two elder sisters and three elder brothers. He is the youngest. Father Chen Xiaoyi and mother Liu Chongqin are strict with their children. Strict family education made him learn to study hard from an early age, and completed his studies in Sany primary school and Gezhi middle school. Wu Shaofeng, an English teacher in Gezhi middle school, has benefited greatly from his conscientious teaching and meticulous spirit. In 1951, he was admitted to the Department of chemistry of Nanjing University (now Nanjing University of Technology). In 1955, he graduated from the Department of chemistry, Nanjing University, majoring in colloidal chemistry. He stayed in the university to teach, and then took part in the teaching of physical chemistry courses and experiments. In 1957, he participated in the reading and discussion of the classic thermodynamic works and the research work on electrolyte solutions presided over by Professor Li Fangxun. Under the guidance of Professor Fu Xiancai, he studied the book "principles of physical chemistry" by Noyes and sherill. in August 1979, as a visiting scholar, he was selected to study in the Department of chemical engineering, University of Wisconsin in the United States. In more than two years, he has listened to solid state physics, computer, material chemistry, theoretical chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis and other courses, and published seven papers in cooperation, and participated in two international academic conferences. 1979-1981, visiting scholar, University of Wisconsin, USA. from 1985 to 1997, he successively held the posts of director, executive vice president and acting president of Chemistry Department of Nanjing University. Consultant of Nanjing University Administration Committee, consultant of University Development Committee, convenor of selection committee of Nanjing University of Huaying culture and education fund. in 1997, he was elected as the national outstanding scientific and technological worker. In 2005, he was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. in 2014, he won the China catalytic achievement award of the catalytic Committee of the Chinese chemical society.
Main achievements
Achievements in scientific research
In the 1980s, Chen Yi proposed an embedded model to describe the dispersion behavior of oxides on supports at the atomic level, and realized the theoretical calculation of the dispersion capacity of different valence oxides on various oxide supports for the first time; in the 1990s, he clarified the reaction mechanism of chemical preparation of transition metal boron (phosphorus) binary and ternary ultra-fine amorphous alloys, providing scientific basis for their preparation; around 2000, he carried out the research Research on the preparation and properties of nano composite oxides and low dimensional nano metal nitrides; joint with relevant comrades to advocate mesoscopic chemistry research, set up the Key Laboratory of mesoscopic chemistry of the Ministry of education, advocate the cooperation between universities and industrial departments, and set up the Joint Laboratory of Nanjing University and Shanghai Research Institute of petrochemical industry. “Studiesonsupportedmetaloxide-oxidesupportinteractions(Anincorporationmodel)inStudiesinSurfaceScienceandCatalysis101(19)(1996)1293-1302,( Eds:J.W.Higtoweret.al. , Elsevier) “Chemicalpreparationandcharacterizationofmetal-metalloidultrafineamorphousalloyparticles” Catal.Today44 (1998)3-16 “SpectroscopicstudiesontetragonalZrO2-supportedMoO3andNiO-MoO3Systems”J.Catal.177(1998)314-324 “AStudyonthedispersionofNiOand/orWO3onAnatase”J.Catal.193(2000)88-95 “CharacterizationofCuOsupportedontetragonalZrO2c atalystsforN2OdecompositiontoN2”J. Phys.Chem . B109 (2005) 1251-1255? Chen Yi published about 400 papers and authorized about 30 invention patents in China and abroad. Chen Yi is the author of physical chemistry and the basis and application of Mossbauer spectroscopy.
personnel training
In the early 1960s, Chen Yi was the lecturer of physical chemistry, and also served as the assistant to the head of the Department. He carefully organized all aspects of teaching, he attached great importance to classroom teaching, and his teaching effect enjoyed a high reputation in the early 1960s. He often compares the quotation and expression methods of three or more famous textbooks on the main content of teaching, writes the first draft, and then writes the outline after revision, and then lectures without manuscript in class. His lectures are focused, vivid and enlightening. Chen Yi attaches great importance to experimental teaching and strives to implement Dai Anbang's view that laboratory is the best place for comprehensive education. During his later tenure as the director of the Chemistry Department of Nanjing University, he established an intermediate chemistry laboratory, which enables students to use some advanced instruments and equipment during their undergraduate study, and enables graduate students to operate independently He also participated in the research of "computer simulation of valuable instrument teaching" software (won the second prize of science and technology progress award of the State Education Commission), and set up an instrumental analytical chemistry laboratory according to the needs of teaching. The establishment of these laboratories has played a good role in improving the teaching level of undergraduates. After the establishment of the postgraduate system in China, Chen Yi earlier proposed to solve the contradiction between the fixed four-year university system, narrow specialty and the rapid development of science and technology, which brought about the rapid increase of new knowledge and new technology, and advocated the bold reform or reorganization of the teaching system. He and relevant comrades proposed to build a number of talent training bases in China and deepen education reform in combination with base construction. His work in the curriculum structure research group and Chemistry Teaching Steering Committee of the State Education Commission has a good influence on Chemistry Teaching in Nanjing University and domestic universities. Chen Yi is also committed to the construction of supporting teaching materials. Around 1960, he and Fu Xiancai jointly compiled the Book Physical Chemistry, which was selected as the first unified teaching material in China and widely used. This book and its subsequent editions have had a great impact on the physical chemistry teaching in Chinese universities. Later, he and Fu Xiancai co edited a concise course of physical chemistry, and organized the translation of the problem set of physical chemistry and the construction of experimental teaching materials. In 1995, the scientific research group led by Chen Yi was rated as excellent discipline echelon by Jiangsu Provincial Education Commission.

Personal life
In 1959, Chen Yi and Liu Haicheng married. They had one child each. They had a harmonious family. They helped each other and their children were successful. He often said that his wife's care and selfless support were to a great extent the reason why he could do something in his life.
Character evaluation
Chen Yi has devoted all her life to the development of China's education and scientific research and talent training, and made outstanding contributions. He has always advocated inheriting and carrying forward the style of study of "preciseness, realism, diligence and innovation", and practiced it. In the long-term teaching and teaching administration work, we have trained a large number of talents and made contributions to the development of Nanjing University. Chen Yi's teaching of physical chemistry basic course is outstanding, and his scientific research work is high-quality and productive. He works hard, understands the general situation, and takes the overall situation into consideration. He is a teacher with both ability and political integrity, and an outstanding one among his peers. (Dai Anbang comments) Baidu Encyclopedia content is shared by netizens.
