As the chief director, from entering the team of approaching the Mediterranean, "civilization" has become my coordinate to measure and examine everything.
The Mediterranean is the cradle of European civilization. For this reason, the first stop of the global journey of world civilization is set as "approaching the Mediterranean". Whether it is the first application of advanced HD technology, or the multi perspective and all-round shooting of "land, sea and air", or the assistance of high-tech means such as three-dimensional animation, it has given our creative team the most solid logistics support. But at the same time, it also cut off the way for us to find a reason for not shooting. Where should we go? Where should our eyes fall? How will our lens show the true soul of Mediterranean civilization?
1、 Years of lip dancing
The world is polysemous and open. Therefore, it has become the top priority of our preliminary work to choose what interpretation position to read the world civilization. In fact, in some developed countries, many years ago, documentary workers focused on the theme of civilization. Since the 21st century, the number of similar large-scale TV documentaries in China has begun to increase, and "the rise of a great power" and "Wall Street" have become models of popular TV programs. So, what is the position of approaching the Mediterranean? After countless days and nights of countless lip battles, our creative team finally found its own position.
Due to the limited funds and time, it is impossible for us to spend several years and tens of millions of dollars to shoot this program like some foreign production units. But can the limited time help us to capture the most vivid things in the first time? Of course, relying on television to record a trip is not our goal. We need to "look, smell, ask and cut" four diagnostic methods to get a direct understanding of the root essence of Mediterranean civilization. Through the comparison of modern and ancient times, experts and local people have different standpoints and views, and use a correct, objective and plain attitude to "peep" and perceive each other in the precious first time. The purpose of the road of civilization is not to seek novelty, but to pay attention to the historical traditions of Mediterranean countries and the current life of ordinary people, and to explore the common civilization values of the world. If we can present the track of ancient and modern civilization to the Chinese audience simply and directly in the present time and space, we will be worthy of this trip.
2、 The days of evolution
When the motorcade of the road of civilization arrives in the Mediterranean, when we step on this magical land, we have become the makers of cultural maps and the excavators of cultural strata.
After all, our trip is not a close reading of the text of world civilization, so our eyes and sample collection must have a clear filter for the audience, which is not to hit where we see, and can not be too arbitrary. First of all, we need to consider those things that are in the cultural framework. On this basis, we can search and capture some interesting elements with distinctive characteristics, shocking or intriguing as embellishments. From Turkey, the end of the ancient Silk Road, to Greece, the cradle of Western civilization, to Italy, which once dominated the west, to Morocco, which has a long history of friendship with China, we touch and comprehend history with the imprint of travel, and try to get rid of the limitation of time coordinates in today's collision, outlining the civilized world of today's Mediterranean.
Of course, even if we are fully prepared and specific in our early work, there will still be many unpredictable events when shooting in foreign countries. For example, when we just arrived in France, we planned to shoot the theme of Notre Dame, but we were just in time for the Christmas holiday, so we couldn't get into Notre Dame to shoot and interview. However, in the limited three days, we changed the theme to "looking for Hugo", trying to interpret Notre Dame in France through this writer who pushed Notre Dame to the world. In the course of looking for Hugo, we unexpectedly find that the writer of world civilization has a unique love for China. Although he has never been to China, his letters denouncing the burning of Yuanmingyuan by the Eight Power Allied forces, or the fake Chinese furniture and ornaments in his home, all make us feel the true meaning of the coexistence of various civilizations and cultural forms. In the journey of visiting other civilizations, we are not only the recorders of camera images, but also the disseminators of Chinese civilization. The collision and contact with different civilizations in the journey itself is a new display of Chinese civilization. It's just that in ancient times zheng he relied on ships, but today we use cameras.
3、 Aftertaste of foreign time and space
After a year or so, we finally finished the preliminary shooting work of approaching the Mediterranean. With more than 700 tapes and 28000 minutes of material, we plunged into the later computer room and started the final production without stopping.
Due to job changes, or some other reasons, the original team changed a lot. Some people are gone, and some new people are coming. The post production of approaching the Mediterranean is unfolding alternately in such an environment. Although the basic material of the program has been shot back, the new colleagues do not have an overall understanding of the whole program, and they are not familiar with the material, so the whole post production has been affected to a certain extent. Discuss with new colleagues what is the road of civilization again and again, look at the material again and again, and tell the story behind those pictures. In this way, the draft of the sample film is revised and adjusted repeatedly Finally, approaching the Mediterranean has its own look.
People who have done TV all know that post production is the most complicated part. Some people even describe it as follows: pre planning is impulsive, on-the-spot shooting is passionate, and post production is painful. In the whole post production process, our team has become a small group, we eat together, live in the computer room, and other people who work in the computer room all say that we have "Mediterranean time". Every night, a group of people with bright eyes have to laugh at the material foolishly; every meeting has to be flushed with a comment In fact, we don't feel the pain in our tired work. In the foreign land of time and space, we savor and feel everything in the Mediterranean. In the process of at least ten times of manuscript and film revision, we are glad to see that "approaching the Mediterranean" has become a fresh and vital work.
