history
Founding a nation
The former Shu was built by Wang Jian of Wuyang (now Wuyang in Henan Province). Wang Jian was born in a baker's family who had been selling cakes for generations. Because of his poor family, his life had been very difficult. By the end of the Tang Dynasty, the world was in chaos and even more difficult, so he made a living by breaking the law and committing crimes and selling private salt. Because he was the eighth in his family, the villagers called him "the eighth king of Thieves". Later, Wang Jian was arrested by the local government and sentenced to death. He was imprisoned in the local prison of Xuzhou and was about to be interrogated, but he was released by the prison officials. After Wang Jian fled, he became a thief. When he fled to Wudang, a local monk saw him and said that he was very strange. He would not be an ordinary person in the future. It was against his mission to continue to steal. Since then, Wang Jian joined the Zhongwu military camp. When Yang Fuguang, the commander of Zhongwu army, set up the eight capital of Zhongwu, he, Lu Yanhong and Han Jian were all generals, each with thousands of soldiers. In the first year of Guangming (880 AD), Huang Chao conquered Chang'an, and Tang emperor Xizong fled to Xichuan. Yang Fuguang also died at this time. As a result, Lu Yanhong was elected as commander-in-chief by Wang Jian and other six Dutou. Later, Lu Yanhong chose to go to Xichuan Qinwang. Along the way, he plundered many people and horses, and his strength was enhanced. When approaching Xingyuan (today's Hanzhong City in Shaanxi Province), Jiedu made niucong afraid of his strength, so he abandoned the guard. Lu Yanhong occupied the place, claiming to stay behind and not to move forward. Instead, he asked Wang Jian and other six Dutou to be assassins of Xingyuan's counties. After that, Lu Yanhong became tyrannical, and Wang Jian and he gradually left. Because Wang Jian had a close relationship with another capital Han Jian, Lu Yanhong suspected that they were working together for personal gain. Wang Jian and Han Jian worried about Lu Yanhong's harm, so they led 3000 people to leave Lu Yanhong and went to Xichuan to report to the Tang court. At that time, Tian Lingzi, the great eunuch, was in power. In order to expand his own strength, he took Wang Jian as his adopted son and merged his department into the Shence Imperial Army, which was called "Hujia Wudu". Wang Jian was still the general of the capital. After Tian Lingzi lost power, Wang Jian was excluded from the court and served as the governor of bizhou. Later, there was a great chaos in Xichuan, and the East and the West attacked each other continuously. Wang Jiansui took Chengdu by the chaos and was appointed as the governor of Xichuan in the Tang Dynasty. After that, he attacked Dongchuan, Hanzhong, Qin, Feng, Ji, Cheng and other states, and established the territory of former Shu in the future. Wang Jianjian was appointed king of Shu in the third year of Tianfu (903). He established Xingtai in Chengdu in the third year of Tianyou (906). The Tang Dynasty was replaced by the Zen Dynasty of emperor Taizu of Houliang in the next year. At the beginning of the establishment of Houliang, he sent envoys to Xuanyu, who had long been under the separate rule of Sichuan, and was rejected by Wang Jian. Wang Jian, together with Yang Wo, the Hongnong king of Huainan, proposed to fight Liang with Li Maozhen, the king of Qi, and Li Ke, the king of Jin. In September of the same year, Wang Jiansui called himself Emperor in Chengdu. His country was named Shu, and his year was named Wucheng. He was granted 100 official titles. The Shu palace was renamed Imperial Palace, and the names of various buildings inside and outside the palace were all changed. There was also a separatist regime of Li Maozhen, king of Qi, between Qianshu and Houliang. Li Maozhen was a domineering vassal town in the late Tang Dynasty. He had repeatedly committed a crime of seizing the imperial court and was later attacked by Zhu Wen. When Houliang was established, it was already a "dangerous territory"
