In 1975, Wu Qiong entered the Huangmei class of Anhui art school.
In 1980, Wu Qiong graduated from Anhui art school and entered Anhui Huangmei Opera Theater. By chance, she overheard Yan Fengying's "three years of the sun and the moon are as thick as wine" at the gate of the library. She thought it was the best story she had ever heard, so she began to learn Yan Fengying's singing. She borrowed materials and practiced in front of a small tree every day.
In 1986 and 1989, Wu Qiong won the gold medal of the first national cassette competition twice.
In 1987, Wu Qiong won the first prize of Anhui young opera actor competition.

Personal life
Wu Qiong met and fell in love with the actor Ruan Xun when she was shooting the MV of "broken blue bridge". In July 2004, they registered for their marriage certificate.
