Early experience
Yu Chenghui was born in Penglai on August 16, 1939. In 1951, he entered Qingdao amateur sports school to study Wushu. In 1960, Yu Chenghui participated in the Qingdao Wushu competition, won the all-round champion and was selected into the Wushu team of Shandong Institute of physical education.
In 1963, he took part in the East China Wushu competition and won the championship with a set of "drunken sword". In the same year, he injured his leg in training and left the martial arts team to enter Shandong Huangtai paper machinery factory. While working in the factory, he still practiced martial arts in his spare time. On September 14, 1975, he completed the conception of the movement style of "mantis piercing the forest". For this reason, he wrote a poem Wujian. In the spring of 1979, Ningxia wushu team invited Yu Chenghui to be the coach of Wushu. Since then, he began to show himself in the field of Wushu.
Acting experience
In 1982, he played the villain "Wang Renze" in the film "Shaolin Temple", and "Shaolin Temple" became the beginning of Yu Chenghui's going into the film world; in the same year, he worked as a martial arts designer and main actor in the TV series "Wusong" produced by Shandong TV station.
In 1983, the martial arts film "Shaolin boy" premiered in Hong Kong. It is the sister story of "Shaolin Temple" and has made more than 22 million Hong Kong dollars at the box office in Hong Kong. Due to the success of the two Shaolin films at the box office, Yu Chenghui attracted the attention of Shaw company.
