Hu Yang, also known as Hu Shang, was a guest Minister of the Qin State in the late Warring States period. He repeatedly led the Qin army to defeat Wei and other countries. Among them, the battle of Huayang was the most classic battle he (together with Bai Qi) commanded, and there was no historical record of the battle between him in 270 BC.
Battle of Huayang
In the 42nd year of King Nan of Zhou Dynasty (273 BC), Qin general Bai Qi and Hu Yang jointly conducted a long-distance attack in Huayang (today's Henan new Zhengbei) to defeat Zhao and Wei allied forces. For 40 years, Zhao and Wei troops jointly attacked South Korea and surrounded Huayang, an important city of South Korea. South Korea asked for help from Qin Dynasty. King Zhaoxiang of Qin ordered Wu'an Jun Bai Qi and Ke Qing Hu Yang to lead the army to save South Korea. The Allied forces and the Han troops were stuck in Huayang, but Huayang was far away from Qin. Wei and Zhao estimated that the Han and Qin troops would not arrive in a short period of time, so they neglected to take precautions. Baiqi adopted the policy of surprise and surprise. Starting from Xianyang, the army made a long-distance attack with an average of 100 Li per day, and arrived at the foot of Huayang city in only eight days. He immediately attacked the Wei army, annihilated 130000 people, captured three Wei generals alive, and the prime minister mangmao of the state of Wei was defeated and fled. Then he attacked Zhao general Jia Yan. After fierce fighting, he defeated Zhao army and drowned 20000 Zhao soldiers, so he took advantage of the victory and went straight to Daliang, the capital of Wei. Most of the main forces of the Wei army were annihilated and unable to fight any more. They ceded Nanyang (south of Taihang Mountain and north of the Yellow River) to seek peace from Qin. After hearing that Zhiyan and Zhao united to rescue Wei, Qin accepted the retreat of Nanyang. In the same year, also before the war of Huayang, Hu Yang led the army to capture the three cities of Wei, namely Juan, Caiyang and Changzao.
The battle between Kaiyu
Before and after the battle of Huayang, Qin and Zhao had many diplomatic contests. The famous one was the battle between He Shi Bi and Mianchi. Qin didn't get the upper hand. Later, King Huiwen of Zhao annexed two cities of Qin on the ground of exchanging land. Then, King Zhaoxiang of Qin sent Hu wounded commander to attack Zhao, which was defeated by Zhao she (see the data of the battle of Mianchi for details). Since then, there is no historical record of Hu wounded.
