Yangjiagou village is located in Dongshan of Caochuan Town, which is remote and inconvenient. Because the primary school teacher was too old to teach, the village head found his nephew Yang Jinsheng, who was studying in high school in the county.
Yang Jinsheng was poor, and his father died of AIDS in order to sell blood for his school. Yang Jinsheng had to rely on his grandmother and became a teacher in the village.
The Town Education Bureau defaulted on wages, and the village head recovered a cow. The dairy cow has become a treasure of primary and secondary schools in the village, and the children are very rare. Yang Jinsheng uses the milk to buy books and newspapers for the students. He also wants to save money to repair the school house and add some desks and chairs for the school.
Yang Jinsheng often takes care of his student Yang Xiaofeng. Yang Xiaofeng gradually becomes fond of him and often helps his teacher wash and cook. In a heavy rain one night, Yang Jinsheng was pressed under a pile of bricks and trees to rescue the desks and chairs in the leaking classroom. Yang Xiaofeng used the pregnant cow to pull the rafters on Yang Jinsheng's legs, and the cow died of dystocia.
Yang Xiaofeng went out to work because her father broke his waist in the coal mine. On a rainy night, Yang Jinsheng looks at the letter left by Xiaofeng. The next fine day, Yang Jinsheng carrying his grandmother came to the mountain, overlooking his father buried in the opposite hillside.

Erdong
The film tells about a big stone called "maiershi" in a remote mountain area. Some people who want to sell their children because of poverty or other reasons often gather around the stone and wait for buyers.
In a winter, it was snowing in February. When Yang Si Lang came back from working in other places, he picked up a baby boy and named him Erdong. Yang soon passed away, and his son was brought up by his wife Yang. Growing up, Erdong is stubborn and difficult to bring up under his mother's indulgence. Erdong began to make trouble for his mother, playing with shotguns, fighting and riding motorcycles. Erdong's mother Yang sent him to a church school in other places. Erdong escaped from there and eloped with a girl named Yang Chang'e. Erdong began to experience the difficulty of life. After Yang became pregnant, he had to go back to his hometown to complete his marriage. He began to bear the burden of life, began to look for life, but life in the rapid development of rural industrial economy has become elusive.
