Chen Zhijian
Chen Zhijian, born in Anxi County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province in 1966, is an academician of the National Academy of Sciences and a researcher of Howard Hughes Institute of medicine.
In 1981, Chen Zhijian graduated from No.1 Middle School in Anxi County, Fujian Province, and was admitted to Fujian Normal University. He graduated from Fujian Normal University in 1985 and got a master's degree in biochemistry. In 1986, he was admitted to the State University of New York for a doctorate. After receiving his doctorate in 1991, he went to Sok Research Institute in San Diego to engage in postdoctoral research. In 1997, he worked in the Southwest Medical Center of the University of Texas, USA, and successively served as assistant professor, associate professor and tenured professor in the Department of molecular biology. In 2005, he was a research fellow of Howard Hughes Institute of medicine. In 2007, he won the Dunnell award. In 2012, he won the National Academy of Sciences molecular biology award. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2014. In October 2018, he won the life science breakthrough award.

Chen Zhijian was born in Nandou village, CHANGKENG Township, Anxi County, Fujian Province in 1966. As a child, his father worked in Nanping and his mother worked as a private teacher in Nandou primary school. Chen Zhijian is the eldest in his family. While studying, he also helps his mother take care of his two younger brothers. In 1979, Chen Zhijian, 13, entered the No. 1 middle school in Anxi County, Fujian Province. In 1981, he graduated from No.1 Middle School in Anxi County, Fujian Province and was admitted to Fujian Normal University. In 1985, after graduating from the Department of biology of Fujian Normal University, he obtained a master's degree in biochemistry under the guidance of Professor Yu Baosheng of Fujian Normal University. His foreign language achievement ranks first in Fujian Province. in 1986, he was admitted to the State University of New York for a doctorate. in 1991, he received a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the State University of New York in the United States, and then went to Sok Institute in San Diego to engage in postdoctoral research. in 1997, he worked in Southwest Medical Center of University of Texas, USA, and successively served as assistant professor, associate professor and tenured professor of Department of molecular biology. in 2005, he was a researcher at Howard Hughes Institute of medicine and won the Heckman Chemistry Award in the same year. in 2007, he was awarded the highest Texas Research Award: the dunell award by the Texas Academy of medicine, engineering and Sciences. in 2012, he was awarded the annual molecular biology award by the National Academy of Sciences. in 2014, he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences.
