Chen Guoliang
Chen Guoliang, born on June 3, 1938 in Yingshang, Anhui Province, is an expert in parallel algorithm and high performance computing, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, professor and doctoral supervisor of University of science and technology of China, and director of National High Performance Computing Center (Hefei).
Chen Guoliang graduated from the Department of computer science of Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1961, taught in the University of science and technology of China in 1973, was a visiting scholar in Purdue University from 1981 to 1983, was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003, was the dean of the school of software of the University of science and technology of China in 2004, and was concurrently the dean of the school of computer and software of Shenzhen University in 2009.
Chen Guoliang is mainly engaged in parallel algorithm, high performance computing and its applications.

On June 3, 1938, Chen Guoliang was born in Yingshang, Anhui Province. In 1956, he was admitted to the computer major of the radio Department of Xi'an Jiaotong University. He graduated from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1961. 1973, teaching in University of science and technology of China. He was a visiting scholar at Purdue University from 1981 to 1983. In 1995, China's first National High Performance Computing Center was established. In 2003, he was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. in July 2004, he was the dean of School of software, University of science and technology of China. In 2009, he also served as Dean of School of computer and software, Shenzhen University.

Achievements in scientific research
Chen Guoliang has made some international best achievements in the research of non numerical parallel algorithms, including packet selection network, recursive selection network, Benes network routing algorithm, VLSI plane embedding algorithm, network maximum flow algorithm, average performance analysis of bin packing algorithm, etc. In the aspect of high performance computing and its application research, the research method of "parallel algorithm parallel machine architecture parallel programming" integration is put forward, and the commercial software "user development environment" of Dawning parallel machine with independent copyright is developed. Anhui disaster prevention and mitigation decision support system and Huaihe River Basin flood control and pollution prevention dispatching system are developed, which have produced certain social and economic benefits in practical application. as of October 2016, Chen Guoliang has published more than 200 papers and more than 10 academic works in important academic journals and conferences at home and abroad. as of December 2019, Chen Guoliang has successively presided over and completed more than 10 scientific research projects such as the National 863 plan, the national climbing plan, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Doctoral Fund of the Ministry of education. as of October 2016, Chen Guoliang has successively won the second prize of national science and technology progress award, the first prize of Ministry of Education Science and technology progress award, the first prize of excellent works and teaching materials of State Education Commission, and the first prize of 863 Program of Ministry of science and technology.

Chen Guoliang thinks: "as a teacher, what we pass on to students is not only the classroom knowledge, but also the ability of practical application and the method of thinking." He often said that it is important for a university to do scientific research, but what is more important is to teach and educate people. "High level scholars and scientific research backbones should teach students, so that they can experience the process of creation and pursue the essence." as the leader of the teaching team, Chen Guoliang put forward the innovative curriculum system of "parallel computing" including "parallel computer architecture", "parallel algorithm" and "parallel programming" in the process of creating the course of "parallel computing"; published the supporting "Parallel Computing Series" as the teaching material; improved the experimental teaching environment and content; and built the first batch of national parallel computing courses Excellent courses at home level. In the laboratory of the National High Performance Computing Center, "three questions a month" is an unwritten system that Chen Guoliang adheres to for many years. "How was the last assignment done? What are you doing? What are you going to do next? " Three times a month, every student has to answer these three questions. He clearly recorded each student's basic information, research direction, conversation and exchange, learning and scientific research progress and existing problems in his specially prepared big book, registered and numbered each student, established personal files, and determined the next learning plan and goals and tasks according to each student's different situations. He said: "this is convenient for the realization of process management of postgraduate training, so as to avoid students' herding sheep ', lack of management, cultivate students' independent activities and self-management ability, and ensure the quality of postgraduate training."
