Character evaluation
Tang Xiaodan is good at shooting military movies. He is especially good at depicting human feelings and human nature in war environment. He softens the cruelty and hardness of war with human feelings and soul (Xinmin Evening News). Tang Xiaodan's films do not follow the path of "hitting the water in the middle stream, and the waves suppress the flying boat". His artistic creation has always been in line and never deviated from the main channel. He has always followed the times situation (social mainstream spirit) and times form (film art innovation) of film creation. At the same time, he adheres to the spirit of national righteousness and realistic film aesthetic style. His works have experienced the test of history and market, forming his own artistic temperament. From the perspective of narrative structure, the creation mode of Tang Xiaodan's military films can be summarized as follows: first, based on the principle of realism aesthetics, highly combined with historical documentary, artistic form and typological innovation. Second, it does not deviate from the mainstream political line of a specific era on the macro level, but also includes the particularity and diversity of the film characters to the maximum extent on the micro level. Third, the film's scheduling of the war scenes can not only completely reproduce the cruel and real side of the battlefield, but also never fall into the one-dimensional display of violence; it can not only show the hardship of the war situation, but also convey the optimistic and strong will to fight. Fourth, the narration of Tang Xiaodan's military movies often follows the logic from defeat to counterattack, and finally the weak wins the strong, and the defeat turns into victory (review of contemporary movies).
