Gansu Lanzhou Taiping drum has a history of more than 600 years, known as "the best drum in the world", spread in Lanzhou, Yongdeng, Jiuquan, Zhangye, Jingyuan and other places. Lanzhou Taiping drum is cylindrical, drum height 70 to 75 cm, drum surface diameter 45 to 50 cm, drum weight 19 to 22 kg, double-sided Mengniu leather, painted with Erlong Xizhu and other patterns, drum belt is long, can be carried on the shoulder, easy to hit, at the same time can throw the drum in any direction. Lanzhou Taiping drum dance is a group dance, which has a variety of performance forms, such as "big sedan chair welcome guests", "Yellow River children", "challenge arena competition" and so on. There are 24 to 48 people in the drum team, with 108 more. Under the leader's command, the drummers beat gongs to accompany, and the formation changed constantly. For a while, there were "two armies against each other", "Golden Dragon ending", "double breakout", for a while, there were "wheel spin", "jump hit", "squat hit", "turn over hit", "shore hit", and so on. After several generations of folk artists and artists' arrangement, processing and improvement, Lanzhou Taiping drum has gradually formed three basic playing methods of "low drum", "middle drum" and "high drum". On this basis, it combines drama skills and martial arts skills to strengthen the change of rhythm. The single Taiping drum beating rhythm develops different playing methods of light, heavy, slow and urgent, and the formation change is more fluid Smooth. The arrangement of new techniques of drum, Gong and cymbal makes Lanzhou Taiping drum more musical, artistic, dancing and personalized, and has a reasonable development on the basis of inheritance.

To explore and protect the Taiping drum dance in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, is not only of positive significance to inherit and enrich the Chinese drum dance culture, but also to promote the academic research of ancient Chinese dance and music. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the survival of Lanzhou taipinggu is facing an unprecedented crisis, the number of activities has decreased greatly, and the young rural "good home" is not as much as before. We need to take measures to strengthen the excavation, protection, sorting and improvement of Lanzhou Taiping drum.
