Applicant: Lantian County, Shaanxi Province
Lantian Puhua water club music is a folk percussion music which has been spread in the area of Puhua Town, Lantian County, Shaanxi Province for more than one thousand years and is specially used for Buddhist, charity and sacrifice. Lantian County is located at the north foot of Qinling Mountains in the southeast of Guanzhong Plain. It is the gateway of ancient Chang'an to Jingchu and Bashu. According to historical records, the Shuilu Hall of Wuzhen temple in Lantian, which can accommodate thousands of monks, was an important place for the government and the people to hold large-scale Buddhist events in the Tang Dynasty. In large-scale Buddhist activities such as Shuilu Daochang, drum music helps to create atmosphere. The form of water society music in Lantian Puhua has been inherited by monks and folk musicians.
The music of puthua water club in Lantian can be divided into two types: traveling music and sitting music. Shuihui music is simple, clear, elegant and delicate, which is in sharp contrast to the intense and extensive Qin opera. The common repertoire are Qingjiang song, xiaoquzi, sanlianzi, baban, GongDiao, laonailing jar, etc.
There are more than 80 kinds of music pieces in the original manual notation of Lantian shuihui music. The notation method is Yanyue Banzi notation of Tang Dynasty, which is also the demonstration of its long history. The music of Lantian water club shows high historical value and academic research value from the composition of musical instruments, repertoire, notation and other aspects; rescuing and inheriting this unique folk music form is of great value for enriching people's cultural life, building a harmonious society and promoting social development.
After being severely damaged in the 1960s and 1970s, the music of puthua water club in Lantian has been in an endangered state for many years. There are few music scores left, and a large number of musical instruments have been lost and damaged. The old artists have died one after another. The rescue and inheritance work is urgent.
