About offering sacrifices to Oboo (woqibei of Daur nationality)
Applicant: Tacheng City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
"Woqibei" means to sacrifice Oboo in Daur language, also known as "Oboo Festival", which is the most important traditional festival of Daur people in Tacheng city of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
In the 28th year of Qianlong reign of Qing Dynasty (1763), a part of Daur officers and soldiers living in Heilongjiang Province were ordered to march westward to defend the border and settled in the area of axier Township in Tacheng. They handed down the voqibei sacrificial ceremony, which prayed for abundant grain and good weather, and formed a festival recognized by the local Daur people.
In history, the period of "woqibei" festival was not fixed. Now it is generally held on the eighth day of June in the lunar calendar. At that time, the Daur people, dressed in festival costumes, will gather from all directions in front of Aobao in sanyanquan, the ethnic township of Asir Daur, Tacheng City, to offer sacrifices to the gods and ancestors and carry out various traditional literary and artistic performances and sports competitions. Finally, the traditional "hankenbay" dance was performed in a circle.
The project is of great significance to enhance the cohesion of the people of our nation and community, respect cultural diversity and enhance national unity.
