Brocade skills of Miao Nationality

Brocade refers to the technique of weaving patterned fabrics with dyed warp and weft threads by jacquard and weaving techniques. It is a precious cultural heritage created by Miao women. In Taijiang, brocade, cross stitch and embroidery are the "three major tasks" of Miao women's lifelong cultivation.

There are two kinds of Miao brocade in Taijiang: woven brocade and woven brocade. The woven brocade is wide brocade, which is mainly popular on both sides of Qingshui River and Bala river. The woven brocade is brocade belt, which is mainly popular in Leigong Mountain area. Woven fabric is a kind of jacquard fabric made by Miao women using the traditional "warp and weft" technique and plain weave wood machine, and dyed with local silk, ramie, kapok and other fibers.

Taijiang Miao brocade has a wide range of decorative themes, including birds, animals, flowers, fish and insects, mountains, sun and moon. There are not only regular geometric patterns, but also classical diamond and square patterns, as well as decorative patterns between geometric patterns and natural patterns. The artistic technique is simple, bold and exaggerated. It skillfully uses the density of points, lines and surfaces to change and combine. The overall layout is balanced, the structure is rigorous, there is momentum in quiet, there is change in regularity, showing a lively and simple artistic taste.

Taijiang Miao brocade is mainly used for Headkerchief, leg binding, waistband, sleeve, back ornament, shoulder ornament and bedding. Shidong type waist colored brocade is the most beautiful type of Miao brocade.
