Introduction to Tibetan engraving and printing technology (boroguze engraving and printing technology)
Applicant: Jiangda County, Tibet Autonomous Region
Tibetan religious culture and art has a long history. This religious culture is closely related to the appearance of boroguze engraving technique. It originated in the 15th year of Kangxi (1676) of Qing Dynasty, and was initiated by the 12th chieftain of dege and the sixth king of Dharma, chaji dengbachren. It mainly spread in Boro township of Jiangda County in Changdu Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region. At that time, dege and Baiyu counties in Sichuan and Jiangda County in Tibet were all under the jurisdiction of dege chieftain. Due to the prevalence of Buddhism, the woodblock engraving technology for printing Buddhist scriptures and patterns developed unprecedentedly, which promoted the prosperity of baloguze engraving technology. Throughout the Qing Dynasty, Tibetan Tusi and zongben spent a lot of manpower and material resources, collected historical documents of various disciplines and religious classics, printed them with more primitive plate making and engraving methods, and made tens of thousands of wood engraving in temples. More than 80% of the Sutra plates in the famous dege school in Sichuan are made by BOLUO township.
Boroguze engraving technology is very superb. During the production, the well-known Tibetan calligrapher first wrote the engraving text, which was strictly proofread by more than two people. After proofreading, the text was printed on the board with special liquid, then dried in the sun, and then copied and engraved by the sculptor according to the original text. After the engraving, it had to be strictly proofread for 12 times to make sure that there was no error, that is, it was brushed with butter soup to dry, and then coated with cinnabar pigment after drying Finally, a kind of insect proof plant is boiled into water, the engraving plate is soaked and cleaned, and then delivered to the workers for printing.
