Wooden drum is a form of Quyi Gushu, which is widely distributed in most areas of Hebei Province. It has the nickname of Xiaokou Dagu, Qingkou Dagu, Meihua tune, laomubanzi, laobeikou plank, qiedagu, gupengxianer, Xianzi Guer, Muban Xihe tune, suffocating cow and so on. During the performance, one person holds a wooden board in his left hand and a drum in his right hand. During the standing rap, he repeatedly knocks the wooden board and the book drum to match the rap. Another person holds a Sanxian accompaniment. It is said that wooden drum was formed in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty. Famous artists include Li Wentong (Li Shangzhi), Cao Zhankui, Li Diankui, Zhang Baikui, Deng Liankui, Li zhenkui, Ma Ruihe, Ma Ruilin, Zhu Hualin, Pang Fengcheng, Hu Jinxiang, Cao Jinsheng and he Guihai. Among them, Ma Ruihe (MA sanmaniac), Zhu Hualin (Zhu Daguan) and Pang Fengcheng have the greatest influence and contribution. The development of Cangzhou area has its own characteristics. There were two tribes, Wang Fuzhen and Mu Hanqing. Wang Fuzhen was nicknamed "cangzhouhong" because of her great influence.

The traditional programs of wooden drum are very rich, with short stories of mouse suing cat, persuading people, Dulin Ying, Guo Ju burying Er, Mulian saving mother and Zhao Wu Niang; medium stories of Er Du Mei, Xiang Ma, Wu Song, Qian Li Ju, Jin Huan Ji and Jiang Gong An; long stories of Zuo Zhuan Chun Qiu and Wu Yue There are five spring and Autumn Annals, such as the spring and Autumn Annals, the spring and Autumn Annals of heroes, the spring and Autumn Annals of zouma and the spring and Autumn Annals of golden box, three generals and three cases, such as the general of Xue family, the general of Yang family, the general of Hu family, the case of Baogong, the case of Liugong and the case of Haigong, and dozens of books, such as the biography of Feilong and the case of Ma Qianlong walking the country. Its singing music is in banqiang style, and its melody is simple and unique, rough and thick. It has had different degrees of influence on the formation and development of many drum books and music in the north, such as Xihe Dagu, Jingyun Dagu, Jingdong Dagu, leting Dagu, and zhubanshu, and has a very unique artistic value.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the inheritance and development of wooden drum has fallen into a dilemma. There are only 8 well-known folk artists of wooden drum, and the youngest one is 57 years old. The prospect is very worrying. The relevant departments should pay attention to it and make plans to save and protect it.
