Introduction to Xilu Bangzi
Applicant: Haixing County, Hebei Province
Xilu Bangzi is the rudiment of Hebei Bangzi, which was formed in Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty. Its predecessor was Shanshan Bangzi, which was introduced into Haixing area of Hebei Province by merchants. The local people combined with the local art of ha ha tune, Luo Luo tune, Liuzi opera, Yugu opera, Yangzi opera, local folk songs, Guci, martial arts, acrobatics, dance and other folk skills, formed the West Road Bangzi, which quickly spread to large areas of Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hebei and Shandong Welcome. In the late period of Daoguang reign in Qing Dynasty, it was named "Xilu Bangzi", which was also called "Donglu Bangzi", which evolved from Shanshan Bangzi.
Xilu Bangzi has a wide range of performances, such as singing, reciting, doing and fighting. It has a lot of workmanship, high pitched and passionate singing, rough performance, and mostly uses Haixing dialect. Especially martial arts opera is the most popular. It requires actors to have high martial arts skills and superb skills, such as "walking dwarf", "playing axle stick", "hanging braid", "shaking hat wings" "Immortal strip" and other difficult movements. In the performance, wusheng, wuchou and daomadan play the most important roles. The main string accompaniment is obviously different from the Hebei Bangzi accompaniment. The language structure of libretto is more flexible, the sentence pattern is not stick to one pattern, and the colloquialism is more important. Martial arts opera requires actors to have a high level of martial arts skills. For example, the famous martial arts student Zhang San's traditional plays, such as Zhang San's boxing and Zhang San's horse racing, are widely spread in Hebei, Beijing and Tianjin.
Excavating, sorting out, researching and inheriting the West Road Bangzi is of great value to the study of the development history of folk opera and folk music in Haixing and Hebei Shandong border region, especially to the study of the origin of Hebei Bangzi, an important drama in China.
