Zhutang town

Zhutang Town, belonging to Jiangyin City, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, is located in the southeast of Jiangyin City. It belongs to the Yangtze River Delta foreign economic development zone. It is the geographical geometric center of Wuxi, Jiangyin and Changshu, with a total area of 59.59 square kilometers. At the end of 2014, the registered residence of Zhu Tong town was 60620 and the population of 85045 was outside. By 2019, there are 12 administrative villages under the jurisdiction of Zhutang town.

In 2014, Zhutang town achieved a GDP of 7.952 billion yuan and a total industrial output value of 24.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.3%. Industrial and commercial invoice sales reached 20.233 billion yuan, including 17.252 billion yuan of industrial invoice sales, a year-on-year increase of 7.79%, 197 million yuan of retail sales of units above quota, and 420 million US dollars of self operated export, a year-on-year increase of 14.65%.

In December 2019, Zhutang town was selected into the list of "2016-2018 civilized towns in Jiangsu Province".

Historical evolution

In 1951, the people's Government of Jiangyin set up Zhutang, Yongping, Jinzhuang and Zhubei townships.

In 1955, Zhutang Township, Yongping Township, Jinzhuang Township and Zhubei Township were merged into Zhutang township.

In September 1958, Zhutang township was changed into Zhutang people's commune.

In April 1984, Zhutang township was restored.

In July 1987, Zhutang township was withdrawn and Zhutang town was built.

In June 2001, Wenlin town was merged with Zhutang Town, still known as Zhutang town.

Zhutang town is one of the "four ancient towns" in Jiangyin. Dazhu village under its jurisdiction is the ancestral home of Xu Xiake, a geographer, geologist, adventurer and writer. Shi Naian, a litterateur, lived in seclusion in Dazhu village at the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty.
