Gubai street belongs to Gaochun District of Nanjing city. It is located in the middle of Gaochun District, bordering Qiqiao town and Gucheng town in the East, Chunxi street in the west, Shijiu Lake in the north and Lishui district and Feng town in the north. The town is famous for the fallen cypress trees planted by Xu Zhenjun in Jin Dynasty, so it is called Gubai street.

The water and land transportation of Gubai street is convenient. Qiqiao river passes through the southeast, shigu river runs through the west, and ninggao expressway, Wutai highway and Shuanghu road run through the whole area. In 1957, Fengshan Township, which was originally under the jurisdiction of Gaochun and located in the north of Gaochun, was established.

In 1959, Fengshan Township was changed into Fengshan commune, and in 1983, it was changed into township.

In 1962, Gubai commune was established, and the township was changed in 1983.

In 1996, Gubai Township covers an area of 16.1 square kilometers and has a population of 12000. It has jurisdiction over 13 administrative villages, including Qianyang, Yangzhuang, Mari, jiangzhang, Tuanjie, duanliutou, Majia, Miaojia, Dingtan village, cishendu, taishu, tanxidu and guoyuanchang.

In 1996, Fengshan Township covers an area of 33.1 square kilometers and has a population of 25000. It has jurisdiction over 25 administrative villages, including Han Dong, Han Xi, Song Jia, Yong Cheng, Dai Dong, Dai Xi, Dai Zhong, Dong Cun, Xu Jia, Liu Tao Yuan, Qian Bao, Zhong Bao, Hou Bao, Wu Jia Zui, Guo Cun, Liu Jia, Shang Yuan, Xia yuan, Tang Qian Wei, Xiang Feng Gang, Huang Jia, Yong Qi, Kong Yang, Wei Cun and Tang Li Gang.

In 1998, the area of Gubai township was 16.1 square kilometers, with a population of 3883 households and 11779 people, including 563 non-agricultural people. In December 1999, Fengshan Township and Gubai Township were abolished and Gubai town was merged.

In 1998, Fengshan Township covers an area of 33.1 square kilometers, with a population of 7880 households and 25443 people, including 810 non-agricultural people.

In 2000, Gubai Township and Fengshan Township were merged into Gubai town.

In 2003, Gubai town governed one community of Gubai and 17 administrative villages of yongsong, Shuangbao, Houbao, WUJIAZUI, Tangxiang, Huangjia, Shuanghong, Weitang, Hancun, Yuancun, Fengwei, daijiacheng, Gubai, jiangzhang, duanquetou, Dingtan and Lianhe.

In July 2015, with the approval of Jiangsu provincial government, Gubai Town, Gaochun District, Nanjing city was abolished, and Gubai sub district office of Gaochun district was set up as the administrative area of Gubai Town, and the sub district office was located in Hancun market town.
