Xitan Township

Xitan township is located in the south of Xiji County, Guyuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, 20 kilometers away from the county seat, adjacent to Jiqiang Town, Xiaohe Town, jiangtaibao Town, Wangmin town and Xingping town. Covering an area of 95.96 square kilometers, it governs 10 village committees and 65 villager groups, with a total population of 9958 (2017). The Township People's government is located in xijitan village, formerly known as xijitan. It is named after xijitan, which is rich in Xiji grass. In 1949, a township in Chengguan District, Shengli people's commune was established in 1958, and later it was changed into Xitan township. Xitan township is an important activity center of Chinese Islamic zhehrenyemenhuan, known as "China Maijia". Xitan Daotang is the religious activity center of Chinese Islamic zhehrenyemenhuan in modern history. Xitan is a typical arid and semi-arid inland Loess Hilly and mountainous area with continuous mountains and ravines.
