Gaoshan Township
Gaoshan township is located in the east of Dongzhi County, bordering Shitai County in the northeast, Yanghu town in the West and Gegong town in the south. The township government is stationed in Xiangjia street, which is named Gaoshan Township because of the surname of the two residents who settled in the past.
Historical evolution
The name of the township comes from the fact that there are many mountains in the territory. The township was established in 1952 and merged into the Gegong commune in 1958. In 1961, it was transferred from the Gegong commune to establish the Gaoshan commune. After several changes, Gaoshan township was established during the system reform.
History and culture
Gaoshan township is an old revolutionary base. The former residences of Ni Nanshan, former political commissar of Fuzhou military region, and Ouyang Huilin, vice chairman of Jiangsu Provincial CPPCC, are all here. As early as 1932, the Communist Party established organizations and developed armed forces here. In 1935, the Soviet government of Jiangnan special zone and the independent regiment of Jiangnan Red Army were set up in Shimenkou, Gaoshan village. The Autumn Harvest Uprising and uprising storm in guiqiudong area were held. Sweeping all over the world, Wei dominates the south of the Yangtze River. In September 1935, it successively won the ambush of Jinta, zhuhongqiao and Zhutang, Dingchong. A total of 55 enemy troops were killed, more than 10 captured, more than 60 guns, more than 20 grenades, a horse, a bugle, and a large amount of grain and ammunition. The great victory of the Red Army made the enemy lose heart, and the people's hearts soared. Land reform was carried out in most districts and townships. In order to consolidate this red area, the people of Gaoshan sacrificed their blood and went on one after another until they won the victory of the national revolution. In order to remember the revolutionary martyrs, in 1984, a memorial tower was built beside the Lixu highway in the northeast of the township. The tower is two Zhang high, solemn and magnificent, and there is an endless stream of admirers.
