BeiCang town is located in the north of Tianjin city. It is one of the nine towns under the jurisdiction of Beichen District. Since the capital of Yuan Dynasty was established in Beijing, BeiCang town has become the distribution center of imperial grain water transportation, hence the name "BeiCang". BeiCang town is located in the political, economic and cultural center of Beichen District, with a total area of 32.47 square kilometers, a total of 13 administrative villages and 10 neighborhood committees, and a population of 59068 (2017). BeiCang town is located in Xinsi District of Tianjin, with developed transportation. It is 110 kilometers away from Beijing, 9 kilometers away from the center of Tianjin, 50 kilometers away from Tianjin port and 16 kilometers away from Tianjin airport. In the town area, Beijing Tianjin highway, Tianjin Baotou expressway, Jingshan railway, North Canal, Beijing Kowloon Railway, Nancao railway, outer ring road and Yongding New River cross the East and West. There are more than ten special bus lines in the town area, with traffic extending in all directions.

Historical evolution
BeiCang village was built in Yuan Dynasty, and Zhigu Guangtong warehouse including "BeiCang" was built in 1279. Later, it was called yinerwan or yinerwan because of its shallow shop. In 1723 of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty, a warehouse style BeiCang was built here, and the location was more prominent. The residents live by boat, fishing, trafficking and farming.

In the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to yongnu county. In the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Quanzhou County. In the Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Wuqing County. In the Yuan Dynasty, it belonged to Guozhou. At the beginning of liberation, it was subordinate to the eighth District of Tianjin County, and then changed to the fourth district. In May 1953, it was subordinate to Beichen District of Tianjin city. It was established as a town in June 1956 and formally established as a town in December 1986. The town area is the north gate of Tianjin, an important military area, which has been repeatedly invaded by wars and foreign enemies. In 1900, the Allied forces of the eight countries moved northward along both sides of the North Canal, and suffered heavy losses by the Qing army in the area of BeiCang. The Allied forces shelled BeiCang village and razed it to the ground. In 1942, Japan's "North China reclamation company" set up "dongtuo company" in BeiCang, occupying more than 20000 mu of arable land to grow rice for the Japanese army, enslaving the local people and plundering the fruits of their labor. In 1945, the Kuomintang army set up a stronghold in the territory and sent heavy troops to guard and build fortifications.
