Historical evolution
The town became a market in the Song Dynasty and an important port in Shanghai. In 1544, the whole town was destroyed. After the opening of Shanghai in 1843, the southern part of the city was close to the Shanghai concession. Foreign businessmen came to the concession to set up factories, and the market became increasingly prosperous. In 1876, Songhu railway was officially opened from Shanghai to Jiangwan Town, which promoted the development of industry and commerce. By the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, there were more than 300 shops in the town, with autumn cotton market as the most prosperous. Weaving handicraft industry is booming day by day; cotton weaving, brewing, chemical and other factories have been set up one after another, among which the model factory rubber factory is the first rubber factory in the city. In addition, there is a horse racing Hall (World Sports Association) in the east of the town, attracting a large number of tourists from Shanghai; social welfare organizations such as the Chinese women and children's Association, Rende Institute, and vagrant Study Institute are gathered in the town; and colleges and universities such as the labor University, Lida School Park, Zhizhi college, and Wenzhi university are also set up in the territory. This was the heyday of the town's industrial, commercial and cultural undertakings. However, in the 1930s, they suffered two successive Songhu wars, namely, February 8th and August 13th, and most of the buildings were burned. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the economy developed slowly. After more than 30 years of construction after liberation, Jiangwan Town has taken on a new look. 125 workshops have been built in the town, 4175 households have moved into the new workshops, and 3601 households have used gas. In the center of the town, xinshinan road is widened and directly connected to xinshinbei road to form a new street. There are many tall buildings along the street. The old streets of Wan'an road were all paved with cement, and the sewers were dredged and rebuilt.
