Tanshang town
Tanshang town is located in the southernmost tip of Daixian County, 28 kilometers away from the county. It is adjacent to nieying town in the East, Xingao Township in the west, Wutai County in the South and yukou Township in the north, belonging to Wutai mountain range.
Tanshang town became tanshang Township in 1953, changed to commune in 1958, and was established in 1984. In 2002, the township was withdrawn and merged with the town, and the 17 villages originally belonging to Bata Township were put under the jurisdiction of tanshang town. It has jurisdiction over six ditches, 25 branches, 33 administrative villages, 26 immigrant villages and 31 party branches, including 29 rural branches, with a total of 393 party members. The number of registered residence households is 3906, the number of registered residence population is 7756, and the permanent population is 2893 (2017).
With a total area of 288.7 square kilometers (2017), tanshang town is 14.5 kilometers wide from north to South and 20 kilometers long from east to west, accounting for about one sixth of the county's total land area of 1729 square kilometers. It is the largest pure mountain town in the county.

Historical evolution
Because it is surrounded by mountains on all sides and the middle is the river beach, it is named after the landform. At the beginning of liberation, it was under the jurisdiction of six districts. In 1953, it was tanshang township. In 1958, tanshang commune was established. In December 2000, it was merged into tanshang town in Bata township.
