Gaoshan town
Gaoshan town is located in the southwest of Yichuan County, Luoyang City, Henan Province, China. It is 15 kilometers away from the county. It is adjacent to Pingdeng Township in the East, Yiyang County in the west, Minggao town in the South and Yaling town in the north. It covers an area of 63 square kilometers, cultivated land area of 4384 hectares (65769 mu), and has a population of more than 52000. It governs 23 administrative villages, 36 natural villages, 211 villager groups, and Hou Village where the town government is located.
In 2008, the town's GDP reached more than 840 million yuan, including 515 million yuan of industrial added value, 9.64 million yuan of fiscal revenue and 352 million yuan of retail sales. The comprehensive economic strength of the county ranked sixth.
Evolution of organizational system
It belonged to Minggao District in 1949 and Minggao people's commune (then called Gaofeng commune) in 1958. In 1959, it was separated from Minggao commune and belonged to songdian people's commune. Potou people's commune was established in 1962. At the end of 1964, the organ of Potou people's commune moved to the west mining area of Gaoshan village. In early 1965, it was changed into Gaoshan people's commune. In 1975, 10 brigades including Changchuan and Qiling were assigned to the people's commune of Changchuan. At the end of 1983, Gaoshan commune was changed into Gaoshan township. In December 2009, the township was removed to build a town.

Gaoshan town is located in the west of Yichuan County. The town government is 15 kilometers away from the county seat. Gaoshan town is a hilly and semi mountainous area. The larger river in the town is Yinhe River, which runs through the whole town from east to west.

Gaoshan town has obvious resource advantages. Gaoshan town is rich in coal, limestone, kaolin and other mineral resources, as well as land, labor and pasture resources. The proven reserves of high-quality raw coal are 60 million tons and limestone is 200 million cubic meters. Gaoshan town has a coal field of Permo Carboniferous system, which has 25 layers and can be mined in 3 layers. The minable coal seams are Taiyuan group-8 coal, commonly known as tielishi coal, Shanxi group-21 coal, commonly known as Dazhan coal, and shangshihezi group-42 coal, commonly known as lianwuda coal. 21 coal is the main mineable coal seam. Gaoshan, Weizhuang, Huangcun and Zhengcun minefields cover an area of 8.55 square kilometers, with proven reserves of 20.97 million tons, 8.72 million tons, 4.93 million tons and 24.4 million tons respectively, totaling 59.02 million tons.
History and culture
Gaoshan town has a long history and outstanding people. Chaogou village in Gaoshan town was the hometown of Chao Cuo, a famous statesman and censor during the reign of emperor Jingdi of the Western Han Dynasty, and the ancestral home of Chao Gai, the heavenly king of Liangshan in Shuihu. Wangzhongwa village was the hometown of Wang Zhong, the Prime Minister of the Tang Dynasty. Wei Zheng, the famous Prime Minister of the early Tang Dynasty, was once buried in Weizhuang village in Gaoshan town. It is known as "five li three prime ministers".
