Ancient town

The origin of famous city

According to legend, the Yellow Emperor named Yongshi city after Yongshi's invention of Chujiu fiefdom, and later called Gucheng temple. Gucheng was once the outline of the ancient capital of Xia Dynasty and was in the cradle of the birthplace of Chinese civilization. According to the records of Yuzhou written by Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, the ancient city of Sima is located in Simari (today's ancient city temple), facing Wengcheng from east to west. Hence the name of the ancient city.

Evolution of organizational system

In 1968, Gucheng commune was established; in 1984, ancient urban and rural areas were changed; in June 1988, Yu county was abolished and Yuzhou City was established as a city separately listed in the provincial plan. Gucheng township is still under the jurisdiction of Yuzhou City. In 1994, the township was removed to build a town, which was called an ancient town.
