Wanquan town is a town under the jurisdiction of Honghu City, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. It is a big agricultural town, an important industrial town and a famous aquatic town in the southeast of Jianghan Plain and along Xianhong highway. It has jurisdiction over 50 administrative villages, 2 neighborhood committees, 3 natural market towns, 8 non organic natural villages and 330 villager groups.

In September 2018, Wanquan town was selected into the demonstration construction list of strong agricultural towns.

Geography

Wanquan Town, Honghu City, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, is located in the central hinterland of Honghu City, the old revolutionary base area. It is the place where the second Red Army Corps and the fifth division of the new fourth army fought a bloody battle. It is a big agricultural town, an important industrial town and a famous aquatic town in the southeast of Jianghan Plain and along Xianhong highway. It has jurisdiction over 50 administrative villages, 2 neighborhood committees, 3 natural market towns, 8 non organic natural villages and 330 villager groups. The town is located between Dongjing River, a tributary of the Han River, and HongPai River, the main drainage channel of Sihu River Basin. It is adjacent to Dongjing River, HongPai River, and Taohong River in the northeast, South, and southwest. Xianhong highway, a provincial highway, runs through the middle of the town. It is 30km away from Honghu City in the South and 45km away from the entrance of Yihuang Expressway in the northwest. Surrounded by water on three sides, the traffic is convenient and the land and water resources are rich. It is a typical land of fish and rice. The whole town covers an area of 163.53 square kilometers (2017), with cultivated land area of 85700 Mu and water surface area of 35000 mu. In 2009, the total population of the town was 52886 (in 2017); there were 3500 non-agricultural households and 17000 non-agricultural population. The town has the largest soil area and the largest agricultural population in Honghu City. In 2007, the GNP was 481 million yuan, including 199 million yuan for the primary industry, 23000 yuan for the secondary industry and 52 million yuan for the tertiary industry, accounting for 41%, 48% and 11% of the GNP respectively.

Historical evolution

Qing Guangxu 20 years (1894) belong to Mianyang South Township. In 1951, it belonged to two townships (huangsinan and hongshanmiao) under the jurisdiction of the Fifth District of Honghu County, and part of two townships (hongxinghe and xiaxinhe) under the jurisdiction of the seventh district. In 1958, it belonged to Fengkou and Shakou communes. In 1961, it was divided into Fengkou and Shakou districts. When the district was withdrawn and merged in 1975, Wanquan commune was set up in the above areas, named after shangwanquan embankment in the territory; Yongfeng commune was set up in some areas separated from Fengkou and Chahe districts. In 1987, it belonged to Wanquan Town, Yongfeng town and zhengdaohu town.
