In December 1986, Jinlong Town Office was established, which was under the management of Karamay Petrochemical plant. In April 2000, it was transferred to Karamay district government for management. As of October 2019, Jinlong town has six communities and one living area under its jurisdiction.
In 2011, Jinlong town mainly raised pigs, sheep and poultry; there were 10 industrial enterprises, 380 commercial outlets and 1542 employees.
