History of construction
In the Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Beili.
In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to chengbeili. After the first year of the Republic of China (1912), it set up Longmen township.
In June 1949, Chenyuan township was established.
In November 1958, it was incorporated into Chengchuan commune.
In April 1961, Chen Yuan commune was established.
In April 1968, it was changed into Weidong commune.
In August 1970, it was restored to Chenyuan commune.
In July 1983, Chenyuan commune was transformed into Chenyuan township.
