History of construction
In 1935, it was Yangpo township.
In May 1950, three townships, Weiyang and sizui, were set up in Wenchang.
In October 1955, the three townships were merged into Siwei and Shuiquan townships.
In September 1958, it belonged to Yuntian commune.
In April 1961, Weiyang commune was established.
In July 1983, it was changed to Weiyang township.
