Gongdao town is located in the northern suburb of Hanjiang District, Yangzhou, at the junction of Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province, adjacent to Yizheng City and Gaoyou City, and facing Gaoyou Lake and Shaobo Lake in the north. The town has a total area of 106.46 square kilometers, a land area of 66.6 square kilometers, 11 administrative villages, 2 neighborhood committees, and a total population of 38527 (2017).

Gongdao town is a national key town, a key town in Jiangsu Province, a key central town in Yangzhou City, and a town with beautiful environment in Yangzhou city.

In July 2020, the National Patriotic Health Association confirmed gongdao town as the national health town in 2019.

Historical evolution

In Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Yongfeng Township of Jiangdu county. In song and Yuan Dynasties, Qiaodong belonged to fengle Township, Jiangdu County, and Qiaoxi to Taiping Township, Jiangdu county. In the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty (1522-1565), it was located in fengle District of Jiangdu County, with 12 Li. Qing Yongzheng nine years (1731), is Ganquan County third district. In the late Qing Dynasty, Qiaodong belonged to nianqiao township of shaobosi inspection office in Ganquan County, and Qiaoxi belonged to gongdaoqiaoji of shangguansi inspection office in Ganquan County.

In the early Republic of China, Qiaodong belonged to Xiashui township of Jiangdu County, and Qiaoxi belonged to Beiliu market of Jiangdu county.

In April 1948, the democratic regimes of gongdao Town, Baishu Township and nianqiao Township were established, which successively belonged to gongdao District of Dongnan County, Yiyang County and Yizheng county.

In September 1958, Chian township was merged into gongdao town and changed into gongdao Township, belonging to Yangzhou City; in the same year, it was changed into gongdao commune.

On August 6, 1987, gongdao township was abolished and transformed into gongdao Town, with jurisdiction over 10 villages and 1 neighborhood committee. Binhu farm was established in 1978 and changed to Binhu Township in 1989.

administrative division

In the winter of 1934, the Baojia system was implemented, with five Baojia in nianqiao Township, 11 Baojia in gongdao Township and 14 Baojia in Baishu township. During the period of Wang puppet regime in 1939, Jiangdu county was changed into a township, the ninth district into Huangjue Township, the eighth District into Dayi Township, the township into a village, the nianqiao Township into nianqiao village, and the gongdao Township into gongdao village. The village was under the jurisdiction of baoruo village. In September 1946, gongdao township was transformed into gongdao town. In October 1947, nianqiao Township in Qiaodong was merged into Huangjue Town, and Chian Township, Baishu Township and zhunti Township in Qiaoxi were merged into gongdao Town, with a total of 18 Baotou towns under its jurisdiction.

In April and June 1948, nianqiao township was designated as Huangjue district. In June 1949, Yizheng County abolished gongdao district and merged it into Huangjue District, which is under the jurisdiction of Yangzhou City: gongdao town governs 5 villages, Baishu Township governs 8 villages, and nianqiao Township governs 8 villages. On August 5, 1950, gongdao Town, Baishu Township and nianqiao Township were designated as Huangjue District of Jiangdu county. In March 1956, gongdao Town, boshu Township and nianqiao Township belonged to Huangjue District of Hanjiang County; in April of the same year, nianqiao township was merged into his hometown. In November 1956, Huangjue district was abolished, and Baishu Township and the northern part of his hometown (the former nianqiao township) were merged into gongdao Town, which became a county directly under the central government.

In September 1958, it had jurisdiction over 7 production management areas (also known as production and work areas, formerly 19 senior agricultural production cooperatives). After April of the next year, the management area was adjusted to 18 agricultural production brigades. On October 20, 1962, Hanyang was divided and gongdao commune was restored to Hanjiang county. In June 1964, the northern part of gongdao commune was divided into Chian commune, which has 10 brigades and 1 neighborhood committee. In July 1983, the commune was changed to Township, that is, gongdao Township and Chian Township, and the brigade was changed to village.

In 1996, gongdao town covers an area of 28.4 square kilometers and has a population of 18000. It governs 10 administrative villages including Xihu, nianqiao, gongdao, Baishu, guying, Xinfang, Malu, pomegranate, Louzhuang and Wuliqiao, and 2 neighborhood committees including Huayuan and Kuixing. Chian Township covers an area of 26.4 square kilometers and has a population of 15000. It governs Tanji, Taiping, sangyuan, Zaiwan, Xingzhuang, Ouyang, Liuzhuang, Huohuo, Chian, Hubin, Yibin and other villages There are 12 administrative villages in Huxi and Yangzhuang, and one neighborhood committee in Chian; Binhu Township covers an area of 13 square kilometers, with a population of 4000, and has jurisdiction over six administrative villages: Zhangling, Binhu, Kuangfang, Tongxing, Jiujing and Meiling.

On June 5, 1998, Binhu township was incorporated into gongdao Town, with jurisdiction over 16 villages and 2 neighborhood committees. In 2000, gongdao town had jurisdiction over 13 villages and 2 neighborhood committees. In May 2001, Chian township was abolished and its original jurisdiction was incorporated into gongdao Town, where the town government was stationed. In 2003, it had jurisdiction over three neighborhood committees of Huayuan, Kuixing and Chian, and 13 administrative villages of Taiping, sangyuan, Ouyang, Chian, guying, Huxi, Hubin, Baishu, nianqiao, Xihu, Hexi, Sanjie and Hedong. In 2006, it has jurisdiction over 11 villages and 3 neighborhood committees.

Hanjiang is the intersection of Yangtze River and Huaihe River. Gongdao town is located in the northwest of Hanjiang District, belonging to Zhenyang hilly area.
