In 1953, it was the Fifth District and seventh township of Lanzhou city. In 1962, Jingou commune was established. In 1982, it was changed to Jingou township. In June 2020, Jingou rural area governs four administrative villages.

In 1953, it was the Fifth District and seventh township of Lanzhou city.
In August 1958, it belonged to Fanping brigade of Xigu commune.
In 1961, it belonged to Fanping brigade of Chenping commune in Xigu District.
In 1962, Jingou commune was established.
In 1982, it was changed to Jingou township.
