Gaoyao town

Gaoyao town belongs to Luonan County, Shangluo City, Shaanxi Province. It is located in the southeast of Luonan County, connecting guanpo town of Lushi County, Sanmenxia City in the East, Luanzhuang town and Yuling town of Danfeng County in the south, Sanyao town in the West and Lingkou town in the north. The maximum distance from east to west is 27 kilometers, and the maximum distance from north to south is 38 kilometers, with a total area of 144.65 square kilometers.

Gaoyao town has a long history and many cultural landscapes. Wenxian mountain (also known as Yunjia mountain) is 1710 meters above sea level. The mountain is unique, with towering rocks, steep and precipitous. "Wenxian Cuiping" is one of the eight scenic spots in Luonan, and also the first place for "Sihao" to live in seclusion. According to legend, Gaoyao Observatory is the place where Gaoyao, the father of gaohuaide in the Song Dynasty, watched the sky at night. Among the ten scenes in baliganjian, there are swords, stones, horse posts and arrow eyes, which spread the ancient legend of Yang Bajie, the female general of Yangmen.

Historical evolution

It is said that Gao Yaozi, the father of Gao Huaide, a great general in the Northern Song Dynasty, was famous for fighting against the rich and helping the poor.

After the first year of the Republic of China (1912), it belonged to Sanyao county.

In 1949, Gaoyao township was established.

In 1958, Gaoyao commune was established.

In May 1997, Liyuan township was incorporated into the city.

In June 2011, the five villages of Qianhe, Dongling, Xiaojie, magou and Mawan in Wangling Township were merged into Gaoyao town.
