Machang town belongs to Yang County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province. Located in the west of Yangxian County, it is adjacent to Xie town in the East, Xie town in the south, Yuangong town in Chenggu County in the West and Yishui town in the north. The East-West distance of the area is 2 kilometers, and the maximum distance between the north and the south is 24 kilometers, with a total area of 47.02 square kilometers.

Historical evolution
It got its name from the fact that the seat of the town government used to be the horse farm of Shu state in the Three Kingdoms period, and later it became "Machang".
In 1953, Machang township was established.
In 1961, Ma Chang commune was established.
In April 1984, it was changed from Machang commune to Machang town.
In 1996, Ni's hometown was merged into Machang town.
