Dongge town is named because it was built by Dongge villagers. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, it belonged to Dongge Township, the Fifth District of Wenchang County in 1950, Xiafu Township in 1957, Dongge District in 1983 and the town in 1986. Historical evolution

Dongge market was built in the early Qing Dynasty, formerly known as dongguapo city (now east of Demi Village).

In March 1939, it was occupied by the Japanese army. Under the attack of the Anti Japanese army and the people, the Japanese army withdrew. In order to "scorch earth and resist Japan", the Anti Japanese guerrillas destroyed dongguapo city.
