Quting Town, located in the southeast of Hongdong County, Shanxi Province, was formed by the merger of Quting town and Guluo Township in 2001. It is 15 kilometers away from the county seat, adjacent to Guxian in the East, Ganting town in the west, Yandi Township across the Quting River in the south, and SuPu town in the north. There are 34 administrative villages in the town, with a total population of 47995 (2017), and a total area of 131.38 square kilometers. In combination with the actual system, the government adheres to the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of "Three Represents", takes scientific development as the guide, keeps pace with the times, makes pioneering innovations, and strives to catch up with the times. Historical evolution

The town is located in Hongdong County Nanyuan area, flat terrain, convenient transportation, national highway 309 line from west to East, across the town. Quting village was the fourth district government of Hongdong county during the period of the Republic of China. When the commune was established in 1958, it was a part of Nanyuan commune, including Quting, Ganting, Yandi and dahuashu. It was set up separately in 1961. It was changed into a town in 1984.

The village is the hometown of Shikuang, a musician of Jin State in the spring and Autumn period. Bocun is said to be the hometown of Empress Dowager Bo (Bo Ji), the mother of Emperor Wen of the Western Han Dynasty. Wang Xuan, a famous university writer in Qing Dynasty and the main editor of Shanxi Tongzhi, was also a native of this village. During the Anti Japanese War, the famous ambush of Han Lue took place in Han Lue Village (the prototype of the annihilation war of the independent regiment in the popular TV series "Liangjian") where more than 180 officers below the major general of the Japanese army were annihilated and 13 cars were burned, creating a brilliant example of the ambush. On September 18, 1883, Liu Fengxiang of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom defeated Hao Guangjia of the Qing army in Quting town during the northern expedition.

Water resources

The famous Quting reservoir, located on the Quting River in the southeast of the town, has a water surface area of 1.52 square kilometers, an average water depth of 25 meters and a reservoir capacity of 3950 cubic meters. In addition, Dongfeng canal, the water conveyance channel from Huoquan to Quting reservoir, has greatly increased the irrigated area of the town.

The administrative area of the town is 131.38 square kilometers, and the main crops are wheat, corn, millet, potato and cotton. Township enterprises, mainly coal washery, brick factory, agricultural machinery repair, plastic processing and other enterprises. In terms of culture, education and health, there are 36 schools, 2 health centers and health centers in all villages.

On February 15, 2013, the top of the irrigation water conveyance tunnel of Quting reservoir in Hongdong County, Shanxi Province collapsed, resulting in piping of the downstream dam, nearly drying up the reservoir with 19 million cubic meters of water, and the length of the dam collapse was nearly 300 meters. As of February 18, 2013, one person died in the accident. (not directly leading to death)

Impact

Railway: Taiyuan Railway Bureau k689, 1485, 1486, 1164 circuitous Baoxi line, Taiyuan Zhongyin line transportation; suspension of Taiyuan to Yuncheng l7825 / l7826 train, Taiyuan to Luliang k7831 / k7832 train, Yuncheng to Datong k7808 train.

Affected by the collapse of the reservoir, 1.4 km long railway tracks in the tiehongdong section of Nantongpu, Shanxi Province were damaged. As the current emptied the foundation of the railway, Nantong Puyang railway was closed. After the iron was damaged, local personnel were immediately organized to fill the foundation which was washed out by water. As of about 20:00 on the 16th, 2000 workers were repairing the damaged section.

Highway: in order to prevent more serious impact, the rescue command blasted a hole in the first grade road to release water!
