Located in the southwest border of the motherland, between the Himalayas and the Laguigangri mountains, it is one of the border counties in Tibet Autonomous Region. Nyalam Tibetan means the neck of an elephant, which is usually understood and translated into Chinese as "the road to hell". As early as the Yuan Dynasty, Nyalam County, together with Tibet, was officially incorporated into the territory of the Yuan Dynasty. It belonged to the administrative division of the Yuan Dynasty and was under the jurisdiction of the central government. In 1276, Nyalam area was under the jurisdiction of laduluo, a district of Ali. In 1618, Nyalam area was under the jurisdiction of wuszang local government. In 1751, after the Qing government abolished the Tibetan monarchy system in Tibet and established the local gaxia government, the Nyalam sect (equivalent to the present Nyalam county) was established in Nyalam. Natural Reserve
Nyalam county belongs to Mt. Qomolangma Nature Reserve.
