The origin of the name
"Zhangfeng" is a Dai language, which means "the place where elephants roar". It was a necessary place for the ancient southern land silk road. At that time, there was a route to go abroad through Tengchong - Lianghe - Longchuan - BAMO. In the first year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty (1403 A.D.), there were three xuanfusi in Nandian, Ganya and Longchuan. There are six Xuanwei histories in Mengyang, mubang, Babai, Dadian, Benli and Laos. It is called "three Xuans and six comforts" in history. After that, Zhang Feng was a channel for Myanmar to deliver tribute to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In 1885, after the British occupied BAMO, they built a road from BAMO to "Foreigner Street". According to the records of the Longchuan Administration Bureau, "in the past, when the chieftain duo Zhongyao bought a car from Myanmar in the 18th year of the Republic of China, he hired migrant workers to carry the car to Zhangfeng street of the Bureau and gallop between Qingping and Zhangfeng.". The original name of foreigner street is "Lei Jie", which means "Cheng Cheng Zhen" in Dai language. After the British built roads and came to this place, it was called "Foreigner Street". Foreigners street is only seven kilometers away from Zhangfeng. The import and export trade through Foreigner Street must pass through Zhangfeng. At that time, Zhangfeng was an important trading port for Sino Burmese border trade.
