Historical evolution
Dai language, Meng: place, Nong: Tangzi, which means Tangzi, gets its name from the township government in Mengnong street. Before liberation, it belonged to chieftain land of Zhanda; in 1951, it belonged to Mengdian township of Lianshan County; in 1956, it belonged to kachang cultural station; in October 1958, it returned to Yingjiang County and established Mengnong District in 1961; in 1968, it changed to Xiangdong commune; in 1971, it became Mengnong commune; in 1984, it changed to Mengnong district; in 1988, it became Mengnong township.
