BAXIN Yi nationality township is located in the northwest of Wenshan City, 45 km away from the county seat, 19 km away from Wenping highway, between 23 ° 18 ′ N and 23 ° 26 ′ n, 103 ° 55 ′ E and 104 ° 04 ′ E. It is adjacent to Xigu Township in the East, Xiaojie town in the south, laohuilong town and Matang town in the West and North. The geology is dominated by sand shale, followed by granite. Most of the strata are Mesozoic Triassic. The main soils are red soil, yellow brown soil and paddy soil. There are more than ten kinds of mineral resources, such as iron, tungsten, arsenic and gold. It is rich in water resources and wide grassland suitable for grazing, which is one of the main sources of Panlong River in Wenshan. It is suitable to develop TAPI pear, Zanthoxylum bungeanum planting and black goat breeding. The forest coverage rate is 45%, ranking first in the county.

The township governs 5 villagers committees and 39 village groups including TAPI, doushepo, gaojiancao, hetaozhai and Bazin, with a permanent resident population of 8240 (in 2017), and four ethnic groups including Han, Yi and Miao, making it the township with the highest proportion of ethnic minorities in the county. In addition to traditional festivals, all ethnic groups in the township have their own unique festivals, especially the Yi and Miao festivals. The Yi people have "Torch Festival" and "grass Horse Festival". The torch festival of the Yi people is held on June 24 every year. On that night, the people want to light the flaming torch, sing and dance, and use fire to drive away the plague and disease, in order to make their families safe and secure and harvest the crops. The grass Horse Festival of the Yi people is passed by the villagers according to the auspicious day of heaven. Its origin has a mythical color. It is said that in the flood and famine era The Yi people here suffered from natural and man-made disasters and lived in extreme poverty. So the two Fairies in the sky decided to come down to save the world. They became two horses carrying gold and silver to save the people here. But because of the long journey, the two horses fell to the ground and died at the edge of the stockade. After their death, they ascended to heaven, and the people here were liberated. From then on, people held a grand commemoration on a rat day before August 15. The Yi people sang and danced, and sent two horses made of grass from the east to the West. in addition, the Miao people living in their hometown also have their own unique festivals, which are closely related to their own folk customs.
